The Klamath River Compact Commission was created by the 1957 Klamath River Compact as a cooperative relationship between the States of Oregon and California and the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (USBR). The purposes of the commission are to promote the orderly, integrated, and comprehensive developement, use, conservation and control of water for irrigation, protection of fish and wildlife, domestic and industrial use, hydropower, navigation, and flood protection. Simply put, the Commission helps to better manage the resources of the Klamath River basin through intergovernment cooperation, which helps reduce the causes of controversy over distribution and use of water.
